Pilot project to eradicate urban waste gets underway in

China officially launched the “no-waste city” pilot program in 16 area

s on Monday as it steps up efforts to recycle its increasing waste stockpile.

The pilot program covers the entirety of 11 cities, including Shenzhen, Guangdong pr

ovince, and Weihai, Shandong province, and sections of the other five cities.

The central government has made arrangements to offer support to

the pilot areas in policy, technology and funding, said Zhuang Guotai, vice-mi

nister of ecology and environment, at the launch ceremony in Shenzhen on Monday.

He said an expert committee has been established to guide the pilot program and

evaluate progress, and seven groups have been put in place to offer technical support.

China announces new tariffs on US goodsday that it wil

China said late on Monday that it will increase tariffs on the bulk of $60 billion of US imports to three categories of rates between 10% and 25%.

For the rest of the $60 billion US imports, the duty rate will remains at 5 percent.

The tariffs will hit around 5,000 products and will take effect on June 1.

It is China’s latest response to the additional US tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods, which were implemented on Friday morning.

Austrian pianist set to showcase Beethoveno showcase Bee

Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, one of the best Beethoven interpreters of all time, will perform

all five Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano concertos during his upcoming China tour with the German orch

estra, Staatskapelle Dresden, which kicks off on May 15 at the Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall.

He will also perform with the German orchestra in Changsha, Hunan province, on May 18

and 19, and conclude the tour at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on May 21 and 22.
